What is Tooth Reshaping and Dental Contouring? Am I a Candidate?

February 27th, 2014

By Jillian Boxer

Do you have chipped, irregularly shaped, or overlapping teeth? Tooth reshaping, otherwise known as contouring, may be for you. This unobtrusive and inexpensive procedure subtly changes and enhances the appearance of your smile.

What is tooth reshaping? A cosmetic and health procedure commonly used to alter the length and shape of your teeth. Contouring teeth may also help correct small problems and improve the comfort of your bite. It can also soften your bite to reduce or eliminate tooth related headaches in the temple region.

Who is the ideal Candidate? This procedure is ideal for patients with normal, healthy teeth – which Dr. Login will determine by taking X-rays and and dental models. This procedure is also ideal for correcting minor tooth chipping.

What does this visit entail? This procedure can be completed in one visit with the dentist. It can last from just a few minutes up to a couple of hours. A consultation will allow you to meet Dr. Login and his team and share your concerns so that he can thoroughly explain the process.

Advantages of Tooth Reshaping:
Cost – Tooth reshaping is relatively inexpensive, starting from $100.
Life Expectancy – Tooth reshaping can last indefinitely as long as the cause of the chipping is eliminated.
Painless – This visit is very comfortable. Dr. Login will gently polish the tooth, and you may feel a bit of vibration. There is no anesthesia involved.

Disadvantages of Tooth Reshaping:
Tooth reshaping removes some enamel, and in rare cases can cause the tooth to become sensitive to cold drinks. Tooth reshaping does not change the color of your teeth, and it cannot be used to lengthen teeth or move teeth.

Do you have irregularly shaped, slightly overlapping or chipped teeth? Are you hesitant to smile? Tooth reshaping may be for you. Call Dr. Login today to find out more information and even schedule a consultation.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Teeth Whitening

February 19th, 2014

By Jillian Boxer

One of the fastest and easiest ways to enhance your smile is to whiten your teeth. This procedure is often referred to as bleaching and there are many methods to achieve the same goal of a brighter smile. Options include whitening your teeth at home using natural methods, using a home whitening kit, or in-office with Dr. Login.

While they are all acceptable methods, the first two often take a long time to see major change. You may want to consider in-office whitening, as opposed to do it yourself methods, if you have any false teeth because the bleach will only whiten your natural enamel. Similarly, crooked teeth will not whiten evenly without the help of a professional because the whitening gel will not be spread evenly without custom-made trays.

Dr. Login’s in-office whitening is a short and comfortable visit that will improve your smile quickly and safely. If you have sensitive teeth and gums you’re also better off with the help of Dr. Login. He can customize the tray, to minimize exposure of bleaching solution to your gums, and he can customize the strength of the solution to avoid sensitivity. Check out some frequently asked questions about bleaching below!

What it is: Bleaching gel is made of carbamide peroxide. This solution removes stains on natural teeth and makes them whiter.

How much it costs: Up to a few hundred dollars

Who the ideal candidate is: Anyone can bleach their natural teeth.

Life expectancy of procedure: Indefinitely if maintained monthly. After Dr. Login has whitened your teeth to the shade you’re happy with, continue to apply the gel once or twice a month at home.

Length of visit: This usually takes 2 hours in the office.

What the visit is like: Dr. Login and a hygienist will create custom clear retainers that will be filled with whitening gel and placed on your teeth for a couple of hours. The visit is very safe and comfortable, as you are able to sit back and relax. A hygienist will be present to supervise and answer any questions you may have.

Downsides of bleaching: Whitening has no effect on crowns, veneers or very darkly stained teeth. It’s difficult to bleach all the teeth the same color. Bleaching can’t reach the roots of teeth because there is little or no enamel to whiten in that area.

What is Cosmetic Dentistry?

February 5th, 2014

Cosmetic Dentistry is sometimes referred to as aesthetic dentistry or prosthetic dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry is an art and science that has been practiced for years and recently dentists and bloggers have emphasized some of the various procedures offered. Veneers, caps, and full mouth reconstruction are some of the results that pop up when researching cosmetic dentistry. It appears as though many of these words are related or overlap, but looking online in the past has made me confused and overwhelmed! What procedures do I need to have? What procedures would give me a better smile? Where should I start my research and what questions should I ask Dr. Login?

After a lot of thought, I decided to sit down with Dr. Login and get the 411 on this topic. I wanted to completely understand these procedures and be able to share what I learned from him with others. I focused on a few important points: What is cosmetic dentistry? How much does it cost? Who is the ideal candidate? What is the life expectancy of this procedure? How long does this procedure take? And lastly what does this procedure entail?

There will be a series of 8 blogs posted over the next 10 weeks touching upon the most common cosmetic procedures.

Stay tuned!
